A inicios del mes de setiembre de 1979 se le detectó a Héctor Cámpora un tumor en el cuello con peligro de metástasis y muerte por asfixia. El ex presidente llevaba ya dos años y medio refugiado en la embajada mexicana sin que el gobierno militar le extendiera un salvoconducto. Si a otros militantes en su misma condición se les había dado la posibilidad de salir del país, como lo indican las convenciones sobre el tema, la dictadura se había ensañado con Cámpora. Otros dos asilados corrían su misma suerte; su hijo Héctor Pedro y Juan Manuel Abal Medina, quien iba a permanecer seis años como rehén, todo un record en materia de asilo.
El tiempo entre la detección del cáncer al momento en que le fue otorgado el salvoconducto, un 26 de noviembre de 1979, fue para Cámpora un verdadero vía crucis. Aunque minadas sus fuerzas, el régimen castrense lo consideraba un dirigente con la capacidad de aglutinar, una vez en México, a los exiliados. Con “vesanía y programada crueldad” –según reclamaba la prensa mexicana- la junta militar había rodeado la residencia del embajador azteca con elementos fuertemente armados. Incluso trascendió el plan de asesinarlo con francotiradores o de montar un operativo comando para secuestrarlo.
Un maniobrar de forma inhumana llenó los casi 90 días de ese vía crucis; el tira y afloje entre gobiernos, las negociaciones enturbiadas por gestos de recelo y, sobre todo, por especulaciones de una dictadura sin contemplaciones que primero ignoró el parte médico y luego lo fue relativizando en un afán por dilatar el tema. Le dejaba prácticamente una sola salida al ex presidente: constatar con su deceso, aquello que decían los partes médicos. Aunque al gobierno no le bastaban esos diagnósticos. Proponía una constatación con médicos propios, con la advertencia de que aun confirmado el mal, no se garantizaba la entrega del salvoconducto.
Cámpora, enfermo pero con su dignidad intacta, se había negado a prestarse a este juego de especulaciones y a que lo revisaran facultativos designados por los golpistas, menos teniendo en cuenta la fluctuante conducta de la Junta Militar a ese respecto. Pero después de barajar opciones diversas como el traslado a un tercer país y viendo el resultado infructuoso de las negociaciones entre México y Argentina –por ratos muy tirantes, al punto que México cambió cinco embajadores entre 1976 y 1982-, Cámpora accedió, aconsejado por familiares y amigos, a ser examinado en el Hospital Italiano, a condición de que estuvieran presentes funcionarios de la embajada mexicana, entre ellos el embajador José Lara Villarreal, el consejero comercial y el agregado militar. Se dice que también asistió el doctor Raúl Matera.
Aunque el 20 de noviembre una intervención quirúrgica dictaminó un cáncer maligno de laringe con metástasis cervicales, la junta militar trató nuevamente de retrasar la entrega del salvoconducto. Sólo una férrea presión del gobierno de México logró poner en un avión a Cámpora, quien llegó el 27 de noviembre de 1979 y que iba a fallecer en esa tierra un 19 de diciembre de 1980.
Todo este extenso prolegómeno para decir que el recuerdo de aquel hecho despiadado, resurge en la memoria y se enlaza con fuerza con un hecho sucedido a inicios de este 2018 cuando una red de maniobras jurídicas impidieron que el ex canciller Héctor Timerman fuera tratado en el exterior por un tema grave de salud que viene padeciendo hace años y que requería una urgente intervención quirúrgica. Como si festejaran esa decisión, hubo personajes del periodismo oficialista y el show mediático que se expresaron en tono de chicana.
Lejos de cualquier tipo de aversión ciega y a pesar de la grave dolencia que lo aqueja, el ex canciller Timerman, frente al montaje jurídico-periodístico que lo atropella con la acusación infundada de “traición a la patria”, escribió una sentida carta por la memoria de sus seres queridos (entre ellos su padre, Jacobo Timerman, secuestrado y torturado en cárceles clandestinas del mal llamado “Proceso”), aclarando los objetivos del memorándum con Irán. Añade luego: “Deseo que un día finalmente haya justicia. Tal vez yo no esté para verla. Deseo que jueces probos y honestos puedan, después de tanto tiempo, dar respuestas a los familiares de las víctimas del atentado de la AMIA y a toda la sociedad”.
Al parecer “la revolución de la alegría” tiene una cláusula: odiar. Un requisito que si venía escrito en la letra chica del folleto de las promesas de campaña de Cambiemos, ahora es una condición prácticamente explícita. Es más, la saña que desencadena en la cinta sin fin de las redes la frase oprobiosa de alguna “celebridad”, revela esa capacidad amplificada de ojeriza y rencor.
No es nada nuevo. Ya en 1952 había quienes pintaban en la calle la leyenda de “viva el cáncer” en alusión a la muerte de Eva Perón. Tanto éstos como aquellos, llevan puesta la camiseta de la inquina. El odio es una enfermedad incurable.
